WWF’s Survivor Series 1989 is notable for a few reasons. First off, it’s perhaps the purest expression yet of what comes to mind when people think about WWF’s 80s golden age. Even though it’s years after the Rock n Wrestling connection, Mr. T main events and MTV tie-ins that cemented WWF as a brand, the WWF of November 1989 features one of the most amazing rosters in history. Established icons like Hogan, Piper and Savage, NWA transplants like Rhodes and Anderson, monsters like Earthquake and Big Boss Man, tag teams like Demolition and the Rockers and more.

Additionally, Survivor Series 1989 is not only the first of the annual events to feature Survivor Series Matches with four-man teams, it’s also the first to give the teams a bunch of wacky, ridiculous names. Like previous Survivor Series events, the card consists entirely of the eponymous elimination-style matches and took place on Thanksgiving in 1989.

Check out the full card (sans spoilers) below:

  • The Dream Team (Dusty Rhodes, Brutus Beefcake, The Red Rooster & Tito Santana) vs. The Enforcers (Big Boss Man, Bad News Brown, Rick Martel & The Honky Tonk Man) with Jimmy Hart & Slick
  • The 4x4s (Jim Duggan, Bret Hart, Ronnie Garvin & Hercules) vs. The King’s Court (Randy Savage, Earthquake, Dino Bravo, Greg Valentine) with Jimmy Hart & Sensational Sherri
  • The Hulkamaniacs (Hulk Hogan, Ax, Smash & Jake Roberts) vs. The Million Dollar Team (Ted DiBiase, The Warlord, The Barbarian & Zeus) with Virgil & Mr. Fuji
  • Roddy’s Rowdies (Roddy Piper, Jimmy Snuka, Bushwhacker Butch & Luke) vs. The Rude Brood (Rick Rude, Mr. Perfect, Jacque & Raymond Rougeau) with The Genius & Jimmy Hart
  • The Ultimate Warriors (The Ultimate Warrior, Shawn Michaels, Marty Jannetty & Jim Neidhart) vs. The Heenan Family (Bobby Heenan, Andre the Giant, Haku & Arn Anderson)
